KOCHI: The official trailer for the upcoming Malayalam feature film Lurk has been launched by its makers, offering a glimpse into a high-stakes thriller centered on contemporary socio-ecological themes. Directed by veteran filmmaker M.A. Nishad and written by Jubin Jacob, the movie is scheduled for a statewide theatrical release on July 24, 2026.

Set against the volatile backdrop of recurring human-wildlife conflict, Lurk aims to explore the deep-seated tensions between environmental conservation policies and public safety.

A Gripping Preview of the Narrative

The newly unveiled trailer opens with sweeping aerial cinematography of dense forest canopies before cutting to footage of a prowling tiger. It quickly establishes its ideological core through a powerful dialogue delivered by lead actor Saiju Kurup:

"Forests must be protected. Wildlife must be protected. But above all, people must be protected."

The tension escalates sharply as characters identify the animal as a Royal Bengal tiger, followed by a sequence hinting at multiple casualties. The second half of the trailer introduces a police-led tracking operation, showcasing administrative debates over recruiting an experienced hunter. It also drops a chilling thematic hint through a character who remarks: "I thought wild animals were the most dangerous. I was wrong... These [humans] are the ones we should fear."

The trailer suggests that while the plot revolves around the immediate crisis of hunting a man-eating predator, the script deeply examines the social, bureaucratic, and political dimensions that inevitably erupt during such crises.

Reflecting Real-World Urgency

According to the production team, Lurk addresses a subject that remains highly sensitive and relevant to the public in Kerala, where straying wildlife and debates over forest-fringe safety frequently dominate the headlines.

Explaining the significance of the title, director M.A. Nishad previously noted that Lurk translates to "lying in wait," serving as a metaphor for the unseen dangers and hidden motives driving the film's central conflict.
