KASARAGOD: The ‘Kerala Yatra,’ organized by the Kerala Muslim Jamaat under the theme "With Humanity," has commenced with a spirited launch in Kasaragod.
Speaking at the reception held in Cherkala, the Grand Mufti of India,
Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad
, emphasized that united efforts are essential to pass on the region's progress and achievements to future generations. He stated that Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama has been the defining force behind the renaissance, survival, and character of the Kerala Muslim community.
In his inaugural address, the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, noted that Samastha provided the community with direction, leading them forward as an organized society, the benefits of which have been experienced by other communities in various ways. Reflecting on the region's history, he highlighted the arrival of Malik Ibn Dinar and his companions, describing them as truthful and noble. He remarked that the history of Kasaragod carries these memories and that Malik Dinar, who lit the path for this northern region, represents a heritage of coexistence and pure spirituality. The local rulers welcomed them with love and respect, a tradition that must be remembered.

Elaborating on the message of the Yatra, the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, stressed that Islam represents love and teaches believers to treat everyone with goodness. He asserted that every religious group has the right to live and propagate their ideals without harming others. He warned against sowing hatred and hostility, urging the gathering not to lose sight of the fact that everyone is human. He added that good deeds performed for fellow beings should not be discouraged based on caste or class, as peace and progress are the primary needs of any land.
Touching upon the upcoming centenary of Samastha, the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, announced that the organization is moving forward with significant action plans. Projects such as the Islamic University (Jamiathul Hind), which integrates Islamic knowledge with modern education, have already been implemented. He appealed for the support of all humanitarians to continue Samastha's extensive work in education and charity, ensuring the benefits reach all sections of society.
The Yatra began with a massive reception at Ullal Dargah, where Samastha President E. Sulaiman Musliyar and Yatra Committee Chairman K.S. Attakoya Thangal Kumbol handed over the flag to the procession leader, Grand Mufti of India Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, amidst the chants of hundreds of activists. The inauguration at Cherkala was presided over by Sayyid K.S. Attakoya Thangal Kumbol and inaugurated by E. Sulaiman Musliyar.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran, Karnataka Speaker U.T. Khader, Rajmohan Unnithan MP, various MLAs, Swami Vivekananda Saraswati of the Chinmaya Mission, and Father Mathew Baby Marthoma.
The procession is scheduled to traverse the state with stops at Kannur Collectorate Ground (Jan 2), Nadapuram (Jan 3), Kozhikode Muthalakulam (Jan 4), Kalpetta (Jan 5), Gudalur (Jan 6), Areekode (Jan 7), Tirur (Jan 8), Ottapalam (Jan 9), Chavakkad (Jan 10), Ernakulam Marine Drive (Jan 11), Thodupuzha (Jan 12), Kottayam (Jan 13), Pathanamthitta and Kayamkulam (Jan 14), and Kollam (Jan 15). The journey will conclude with a grand finale at Putharikandam Maidanam in Thiruvananthapuram on January 16.
