KOZHIKODE: The ‘Kerala Yatra,’ a state-wide procession organized by the Kerala Muslim Jamaat under the theme "With Humanity," witnessed a massive reception at Muthalakulam on its fourth day. Delivering the keynote address at the Varakkal Mullakoya Thangal Nagar, the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmed, urged the Indian government to break its silence on global injustices and called for the elevation of Kozhikode to the status of India's cultural capital.

Addressing the thousands gathered, the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmed, asserted that the world must not remain a passive spectator to encroachments on sovereign republics, specifically condemning American aggression against nations like Venezuela. "India must raise its voice against this and lead the protests. Unilateral attacks against Venezuela cannot be accepted under any circumstances," he stated. Highlighting the global transition from monarchy to democracy, he warned that actions undermining the sovereignty of nations threaten the very concept of democracy and push the world toward dictatorship. He urged the gathering to stand in solidarity and prayer with oppressed people globally.

Turning to the significance of the host city, the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmed, highlighted Kozhikode's rich religious, cultural, and industrial heritage, which has garnered international attention. He noted that the city's history influenced his decision to name his educational project "Sunni Cultural Centre" (Markaz) in 1978. Referring to Kozhikode’s recognition as a UNESCO City of Literature, he proposed that the government take the initiative to establish a major cultural center that blends the city’s ancient glory with modern possibilities. "We have a duty to carry forward the reputation built by our ancestors. Kozhikode must be transformed into the cultural capital of India," he declared.

The fourth day of the Yatra began at Poonoor, the hometown of the Grand Mufti, where he was received by district Sunni leaders and MLAs Sachin Dev and P.T.A. Rahim. The procession was greeted by supporters lining the roads, culminating in a rally and a Centenary Guard parade in Kozhikode. The reception conference began with a prayer by Sayyid Ali Bafaqi Thangal. Presided over by Kodampuzha Bava Musliyar, the event was inaugurated by John Brittas MP.

The session featured addresses by a diverse array of dignitaries, including E. Sulaiman Musliyar, Ponmala Abdul Khader Musliyar, and Yatra deputy leaders Sayyid Ibrahimul Khaleel Al Bukhari and Perod Abdurahman Saqafi. Prominent attendees included M.K. Raghavan MP, Ahmed Devarkovil MLA, Linto Joseph MLA, and Dr. Beena Philip. The event also saw participation from cultural and religious leaders including Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, Kerala Varma Zamorin Raja, Swami Ujjalananda, Dr. Royce Manoj, and Father Dr. Abdul Hakkim Azhari.

The procession will continue its journey with scheduled receptions in Kalpetta (Jan 5), Gudalur (Jan 6), Areekode (Jan 7), Tirur (Jan 8), Ottapalam (Jan 9), Chavakkad (Jan 10), Ernakulam Marine Drive (Jan 11), Thodupuzha (Jan 12), Kottayam (Jan 13), Pathanamthitta and Kayamkulam (Jan 14), and Kollam (Jan 15).
